About

Why OpenTaper exists

OpenTaper is a free, independent directory that connects people who want to safely taper off antidepressants and other psychiatric medications with licensed prescribers who specialize in deprescribing.

Built by someone who has done this work

OpenTaper was created by a PMHNP (psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner) who is no longer practicing. After years in clinical care, they saw how hard it is for patients to find a prescriber who treats tapering as a careful, supported process rather than an afterthought — and built this directory to close that gap.

How providers are listed

Every provider in the directory is licensed, and their state licenses are verified before their profile goes live. We list providers who are genuinely interested in helping people taper safely — not simply in growing a caseload. That vetting is the whole point: when you find someone here, you're finding someone who has chosen to do this work with care.

What OpenTaper is — and isn't

OpenTaper is a directory, not a telehealth platform. We don't handle appointments, we never collect patient health information, and we don't give medical advice. You search the directory freely, view a provider's profile, and then reach out through that provider's own scheduling link. Searching is always free for patients.

A note on doing this safely

Tapering psychiatric medication is best done gradually, with the guidance and support of a trusted professional who knows your history. The information in our learning center is educational and is not a substitute for personalized medical care.

OpenTaper is a directory service. We do not provide medical advice. Always consult a licensed healthcare provider before making changes to your medication.
